The Bramante Tower (Torre del Bramante) dates back to at least 1198, when a defensive and civic tower was documented within the castle complex controlled by the city of Pavia. Initially built for military and surveillance purposes, it gradually took on an important civic role, becoming the site of bells used to mark time and signal key events, as well as hosting one of the earliest public mechanical clocks in the area.
