Bass Pro Shops - Tsawwassen Mills
Scorri a basso per l’Italiano

I took my grandsons Brody and Blake back to school shopping at the Tsawwassen Mills Mall as they wanted to go to the Nike store. I was very surprised on how elegant this mall is, but what made my jaw drop in awe was the Bass Pro Shops. It is definitely a sight to be seen!
Bass Pro Shops was founded in 1972 by Johnny Morris, a young Missouri fisherman who was passionate about bass fishing. He began selling fishing tackle from just 8 square feet of space in the back of his father's liquor store in Springfield, Missouri. That tiny operation was the beginning of what would become one of North America's best-known outdoor brands.
Morris had spent five years competing on the professional bass-fishing circuit. He understood what serious anglers wanted, but he also wanted to make quality outdoor equipment accessible to everyday people. His first customers began asking him to ship fishing lures and tackle to them, which helped the business grow beyond its little Missouri shop.
The one thing that made Bass Pro different was Morris's idea that a store could be an experience in itself and I can attest to this as it truly is a jaw dropping experience. The merchandised is displayed in a way that even if you are not interested in the activity they are selling, you have to look at it. A pretty great concept. In 2017, Bass Pro acquired Cabela’s, another outdoor retailer that was founded in 1961. Bringing these two companies together created what Bass Pro describes as a "best-of-the-best" outdoor retail experience.
In 2016, Bass Pro came to British Columbia for the first time and when plans for Tsawwassen Mills was announced, Bass Pro was one of the major anchor tenants and was described as unique to the BC market.
Construction of Tsawwassen Mills began in January 2014, on Tsawwassen First Nation land. The shopping centre was developed by Ivanhoé Cambridge as a hybrid outlet and entertainment destination, inspired partly by Vaughan Mills in Ontario and CrossIron Mills near Calgary.
The Bass Pro building is enormous at about 145,000 square feet, making it one of the largest stores in the centre. It actually opened to the public one day before the official opening of Tsawwassen Mills. On October 4, 2016, Bass Pro held a special Evening for Conservation and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public got its first opportunity to see the store that evening.
What makes this store incredible is its outdoor wilderness theme. Instead of feeling like a regular retail store, the interior was designed as an immersive outdoor experience, with enormous wildlife displays, trees, rockwork, water features and an impressive aquarium. My grandsons stood watching the fish and trying to identify them. Pretty spectacular display.
The store also includes a themed bowling alley and an underwater-themed restaurant, making it a shopping and entertainment destination. There are departments devoted to archery, fishing, hunting, shooting, firearms, camping, canoes & kayaks, outdoor clothing, footwear, ATV, off-road vehicles and boat sales and service.
Some interesting facts on Tsawwassen Mills:
Opened on October 5, 2016
Has about 1.2 million sq. ft. of retail space
$600 million was invested in the mall
It has about 200 stores
There are approximately 6,000 parking spaces
The food court has 1,100 seats
It provides employment for about 3,500 full and part-time positions
The mall was also designed to reflect the local landscape and Tsawwassen First Nation and Coast Salish culture, incorporating Indigenous artwork, Pacific Northwest influences, heavy timber and nature-inspired design.
A fun fact
The opening of Tsawwassen Mills was such a big event that traffic became a major concern. Thousands of people arrived, with some shoppers lining up as early as 1:30 a.m. The BC government even issued a traffic advisory because of expected congestion around Highway 17 and the route to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.

Bass Pro Shops - Tsawwassen Mills
Offre lavoro a circa 3.500 persone, tra posizioni a tempo pieno e part-time
