Scorri a basso per l’Italiano

Indira and I visited Westminster Abbey today and then took a stroll on the Heritage Mountain Hike via Westminster Abbey Trail. Sadly, part of the trail was closed but it was still a beautiful walk with incredible views.
The hike begins at Westminster Abbey, perched high above the Fraser Valley. Home to a community of Benedictine monks since 1954, Westminster Abbey is one of only two Benedictine abbeys in Canada. The monastery traces its beginnings in British Columbia to 1939, when five monks arrived from Oregon's Mount Angel Abbey to establish a new centre of monastic life and education.
The Heritage Mountain trail itself is relatively short and family-friendly, making it accessible to hikers of many abilities. The route winds through a peaceful coastal forest filled with towering Douglas firs, cedars, and sword ferns before arriving at scenic viewpoints overlooking the Fraser Valley. Depending on the route chosen, the hike can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or more.
Unlike many mountain hikes that challenge us to conquer a summit, Heritage Mountain invites us to embrace stillness. The trail is less about reaching the end and more about appreciating the beauty found along the way. Whether it is sunlight filtering through the forest, glimpses of the Fraser Valley appearing through the trees, or the peaceful presence of the Abbey nearby, there is a quiet magic here that is difficult to describe until you experience it yourself.
Perhaps that is what makes Heritage Mountain so special. It offers more than beautiful views and well-loved trails. It reminds us that nature has a way of restoring us when we slow down long enough to notice it. Sometimes, the most memorable journeys are not measured by how far we walk, but by how peaceful we feel when we arrive.

Heritage Mountain Hike – Mission
