I love sharing stories about Arona, the beautiful town I’m lucky to call home. Today I attended the inauguration of MeeM Beach—our beloved lido—led by Mayor Alberto Gusmeroli, and it felt like the perfect moment to tell you a bit about our town and this exciting new lakeside destination.

Facts about Arona:

• Is a lakeside town in Piedmont, located on the south-western shore of Lake Maggiore in the province of Novara

• Sits at 212 m elevation

• Covers between 14.9 -15.2 km²

• Population is estimated at 13,632 for 2026

• The area has been inhabited since the 18^th – 13^th centuries BC

• In Roman times, Arona was an important waypoint on the Simplon route, used for military movement toward Gaul

• Prehistoric pile-dwellings were found in Lagoni di Mercurago National Park, a hamlet of Arona.  Since 2012, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for being a prehistoric pile-dwelling site of the Alps

• The town was controlled at different times by the Celts, Romans, Visconti family, and the powerful Borromeo family fortified the town in 1439

• Charles Borromeo, one of Italy’s most influential saints, was born in Arona in 1538 at the Rocca. The town is famous for the giant 35 meters tall “Sancarlone” statue dedicated to him

• Oscar Wilde stayed in Arona in 1875 and wrote Rome Unvisited here

• Arona is the southernmost port on Lake Maggiore, offering boat and hydrofoil connections to other Italian and Swiss towns

• The town’s economy is strongly tied to tourism, especially from Milan, France and Germany

• The lakefront promenade is over 1 km long, lined with cafés, gardens, and terraces—one of the liveliest spots in town, especially in summer

Arona offers three beach areas with diverse and memorable lakeside experience which entices tourists to visit but are also well populated by the locals.  Whether you seek the peaceful surroundings of Rocchette Beach (Nautica Beach), the charming beauty of Spiaggia del Sorriso at Punta Vevera, or the vibrant atmosphere of Lido di Arona (MeeM) along Corso Europa, each destination has its own unique appeal, making Arona an ideal place to relax, explore, and enjoy the lake.

MeeM is the most popular of Arona’s three beach areas, serving as both a beach bar and a vibrant social hub. It has been part of the lakeside scene for nine years, but today’s inauguration unveils a beautifully renovated space that feels completely renewed.

With their new nine‑year management contract, the operators have reimagined the beach, making it more welcoming, comfortable, and functional. This long-term commitment gives them the freedom to invest with vision and care, creating a space that Arona’s residents—and all the visitors who fall in love with our beautiful city—will be able to enjoy for years to come.

The new beach has:

• Free admission

• New bar and food area, with lots of seating

• Large lawn spaces to enjoy games with the family

• Sunbed and umbrella rentals

• Sandy beach leading into Lake Maggiore

• Playground for children

• Beach volleyball court will be ready in the next coming weeks

• Ballroom dancing on Friday nights organized by two major local associations

• More to come over the next year

Adoro raccontare storie su Arona, la splendida cittadina che ho la fortuna di chiamare casa. Oggi ho partecipato all’inaugurazione di MeeM Beach — il nostro amato lido — presieduta dal sindaco Alberto Gusmeroli, e mi è sembrato il momento perfetto per raccontarvi qualcosa della nostra città e di questa nuova ed entusiasmante meta sul lago.

Fatti su Arona:

• È una cittadina lacustre del Piemonte, situata sulla riva sud-occidentale del Lago Maggiore nella provincia di Novara

• Si trova a 212 m di altitudine

• Copre tra 14,9 e 15,2 km²

• La popolazione è stimata in 13.632 abitanti per il 2026

• L'area è abitata dal XVIII al XIII secolo a.C.

• In epoca romana, Arona era un importante punto di passaggio sulla rotta del Sempione, utilizzato per il movimento militare verso la Gallia

• Abitazioni preistoriche su pali sono state trovate nel Parco Nazionale di Lagoni di Mercurago, un borgo di Arona.  Dal 2012 fa parte del sito Patrimonio dell'Umanità UNESCO per essere un sito preistorico di pali delle Alpi

• La città fu controllata in diversi periodi dai Celti, dai Romani, dalla famiglia Visconti, e la potente famiglia Borromeo fortificò la città nel 1439

Arona offre tre aree balneari con esperienze sul lago diverse e memorabili che attirano i turisti a visitarle, ma sono anche ben popolate dalla popolazione locale.  Che si cerchi la tranquilla spiaggia di Rocchette (Nautica Beach), la bellezza affascinante della Spiaggia del Sorriso a Punta Vevera, o l'atmosfera vivace di Lido di Arona (MeeM) lungo il Corso Europa, ogni destinazione ha un fascino unico, rendendo Arona un luogo ideale per rilassarsi, esplorare e godersi il lago.

MeeM è la più popolare delle tre zone balneari di Arona, fungendo sia da bar sulla spiaggia sia da vivace centro sociale. Fa parte della scena lacustre da nove anni, ma l'inaugurazione di oggi svela uno spazio splendidamente rinnovato che sembra completamente rinato.

Con il loro nuovo contratto di gestione di nove anni, gli operatori hanno reinventato la spiaggia, rendendola più accogliente, confortevole e funzionale. Questo impegno a lungo termine dà loro la libertà di investire con visione e cura, creando uno spazio che i residenti di Arona—e tutti i visitatori che si innamorano della nostra splendida città—potranno godere per molti anni a venire.

• Il campo da beach volley sarà pronto nelle prossime settimane

• Balli da sala il venerdì sera organizzati da due importanti associazioni locali

• Altri aggiornamenti arriveranno nel prossimo anno
