Pasta alla Lavender and Montasio

Serves: 4

I’ve always wanted to try lavender in my cooking and adding it to this pasta dish with montasio cheese is a good pairing. Using whole wheat pasta helps make this a mind smart dish.


375 g whole pasta

2 tbsp olive oil

½ cup chopped shallots

1 tbsp minced garlic

½ cup chopped ham

1 ½ cup cream

½ tsp lavender flower

2 cup shredded Friulano (Montasio) cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Red pepper flakes (optional)

2 tbsp finely chopped parsley

Grated Parmesan cheese


  1. Cook pasta al dente, following package directions

  2. Heat oil in large skillet and add shallots, garlic and ham

  3. Sauté on high until shallots are cooked

  4. Add cream and lavender and stir for a minute

  5. Add cheese and lower heat to simmer and stir until cheese has melted

  6. Add pasta and red pepper flakes and combine everything well

  7. Taste for salt and pepper

  8. Plate and top with chopped parsley and grated cheese
